Does anybody knows how to use a dell axim x30 wifi capable as a VOIP (voice over internet protocol) phone. ?
I have this dell axim x30 pocket pc, that unfurtunately didn’t came with wifi integrated anttena. Therefore, I added a SDIO Wifi 802.11B. I created a softphone vonage account and use this program call sjphone for my axim pda. I tried to get it to work but for some reason it didn’t there the proxy wasn’t found, so i couldn’t register into the account. Can any body help with this technical support. I worked not to long ago for packet 8 technical support therefore I didn’t get to learn that much. (worked for 2 weeks) if there is any vonage or other voip technical person that can help me with this. any suggestion. any detail specifications or minimum requirements that my pda didn’t have. axim x30 312mhz proccessor, 32 ram,
I haven’t used the Axim, but I am very famaliar with using various Softphones and configuring them for various SIP based VoIP services.
To the best of my knowledge, Vonage does not open their network to open connectivity by softphones other than their own “pre-configured” softphones, like their V-phone.
Softphones like JSPhone, X-Lite, NCH Express Talk, and the 3CX VoIP Client are all designed to allow the user to configure whatever BYOD (bring your own device) SIP-based VoIP services like CallCentric, InPhonex, Les.net, etc. I don’t believe Vonage opens their network to user configuration any BYOD devices for connection to their service. I have tested all the above sofphones at one time or another in the past on my windows xp pc.
If the Axim is allowing you to install PC based softphones like the SJPhone, then I can make an alternte suggestion for testing.
I have found the 3CX VoIP Client SoftPhone as a very user friendly softphone. Currently it is my first choice of user configurable sofphones.
http://www.3cx.com/VOIP/voip-phone.html
This softphone is configurable with any SIP VoIP service. It allows you to pre-configure numerous SIP services of your choice and then select which service you currently want to connect to and make calls from.
I configure my devices with CallCentric. They post all SIP configurations on their web site. They allow free in-network calling between account holders. They are BYOD and pay-as-you-go, no contracts, no obligations, no gimmicks. I also connect to them with my own user configurable Linksys SPA2102-NA VoIP ATA phone adapter.
I also connect my VoIP devices to InPhonex and Les.net on a pay-as-you-go baisis. But, CallCentric is the one I like the best.
By the way, CallCentric also provides a free downloadable Softphone that is preconfigured for their service, too. It is a very small download (compared to other softphone downloads). If the Axim can accomodate 3rd party software installation, it may be worth a try.
Vonage does not allow configuration by 3rd party, unlocked devices. Vonage does not publish the proxy server connection settings that is necessary to connect to a VoIP service using your own configurable devices. (as far as I know).
