Data plan question for verizon phones?

So I want to get a PDA or a Blackberry from Verizon. Is there any way I can opt out of paying for the data plan? I wouldn’t really use the data plan, plus the phone I am interested in, Samsung Omnia, has Wi-Fi. All answers are greatly appreciated!

Sadly, Data plan is required on all smart phones and Blackberrys.
